Snow isn't sure when his brother got back the evening before, all he knows is that he was in the basement all night working on his research and accidentally forgot to go to bed. It's a little too late to go to bed now since the sun is rising but maybe he can catch a nap later on in the afternoon. Instead, he thinks maybe it would be more fun to break in the morning in a way that he hasn't been able to for a while. With a nice workout.
Who doesn't enjoy a friendly spar in the morning?
He's never been an offensive fighter, his abilities tended to lean towards defensive unless he really got angry. And as far as he remembers, he has only unleashed his offensive potential once or twice in his life. He doesn't actually really remember as when it happens, he's too infuriated to really focus on what's happening. All he really know sis somehow his brother gets the brunt of it but it's also his brother that manages to get him back to his normal self.
Eventually.
He sneaks up to his brother's room and creaks the door open to see if he's still asleep. Then takes a minute to slowly create a little cloud above his brother's pillow before calling out, "Think fast!" He pauses another minute for his brother to react before starting to drop tennis ball sized snow balls down from the ceiling. Not enough to hurt but enough to do something.
One would think that with his more outgoing nature that Nic was a complete party animal. And while in a sense, it was true, he also has considerably mellowed out in that regard over the last few years. Call it growing up, shifting tastes, whatever.
Point is, at one point late in the night while Snow was engrossed in his work, he did poke his head downstairs to see what his brother was up to. But noticing how entrenched he was, Nic simply shook his head and went back upstairs to his bed. It wasn't worth trying to shake Snow out of it when he was that laser-focused on his research.
In the meantime, he's softly snoring, dead to the world when Snow comes into his room. It's only a few moments later that he realizes what's going on and sputters from the first snowballs smacking him in the face. Though really, they disappear fairly quickly with an uptick in his body temperature. He glares at his brother, looking more like a grumpy animal before he rolls out of bed and fires off a little jet of flame to meet the snow and evaporate it before it ruins his sheets. "Why you little-"
What a way to wake up, right? The cheeky smile fills his face as he turns and makes his way back towards the doorway. It always amuses him just how well his brother can direct those flames. Although, much of that may be due to him trying to protect everything from the random snow flurries that would sometimes follow Snow through the house when he was distracted and not thinking as he walks through the house.
Sure, Snow was currently running on very little to no sleep. He still feels like he could at least match his brother if not fully take him on in this state. He steps through the doorway and takes a second to build a waist tall thin ice barrier to slow him down before turning again and dashing towards their back door.
No fighting in the house. One of the things he could still hear their mum yelling at them. Not "no fighting". It was almost a given that they would need an outlet for their powers and to learn how to use them properly. So if that was the case, at least take it outside, was probably the logic. He never really asked.
He supposes it's only fair considering what he's pulled on Snow in the past.
(Still no regrets, though.)
He makes a garbled noise as his brother attempts to escape, redirecting his flames to try and melt and evaporate the ice barrier that was there. It doesn't take long, and he vaults over it once there's enough clearance for him to do so, ignoring the fact that he's still in pajamas and his hair's an absolute mess as he tears down the hallway and down the stairs to follow Snow toward the back door.
Sure, he's the one who was more likely to break the rules with regard to their powers when growing up, but he also understood what it all meant as well. Really though, once he woke up a bit more, he'd definitely have the advantage considering that his brother is currently running on fumes.
But going outside made more sense. At least there they could freely use their powers without destroying half the house, even if they still had to go far enough away in order to not arouse suspicion from the neighbors.
Good times.
Nic throws open the door, narrowing his eyes before he tries to catch his brother with a flying tackle, using a couple jets of flame to try and help speed him up (but without damaging the flooring or the back porch).
As he's rushing away from the initial scene of attack, there's a small voice at the back of his mind reminding him that potentially this was a bad idea. Nic was obviously the better fighter of the two. Flames are obviously more offensive than ice and he, himself, spends more time with books than actually physically training. He shrugs off the voice for now. Too late for regrets!
Never make decisions when you haven't had an iota of sleep. Those choices never turn out well. Specially when there's a phoenix chasing you through the house and then out into the wide open where limitations are lifted.
He hesitates as he makes it out into the open. Also a bad choice, he realizes the moment a body comes tumbling into his own. "Propulsion is cheating!" He declares like a five year old as he goes with the momentum and following the direction he's being pushed towards. He moves automatically to break his fall with the least amount of damage and attempts to flip himself up and out of the grasp that's inevitably going to go around him. "And just when did you even learn to control that?!"
The place he chose for their first, date - for the lack of a better word, was actually quite a nice place. Not fancy but not run down and just comfortable for two people to meet for the first time in a long time. And for two people who have reunited over an unfortunate (or maybe fortunate?) text message. He quietly thanks his brother for this little moment regardless of the fact that his brother might rage at him for taking a girl that was very suitable for him. What's a sibling unless they try to steal your girlfriend before you know they exist, right?
He's now waiting in one of the small booths to the rear of the pub, not overly dressed but still smart casual as he nurses just a glass of water for now. Would be rude of him to start drinking before his date arrives, wouldn't it? And he didn't know her well enough to order in advance for her although that would be a neat trick if he was confident enough to pull it off. ...which he isn't. He taps a finger nervously on the table before him as he glances up towards the ceiling to avoid appearing like he's staring at the door.
In all honesty, the fit of spontaneity that Madsen's having over this whole situation is actually a little ... refreshing? It's not exactly something she would've seen herself doing before at least. It at least certainly helps that while she doesn't know Snow that much, that he and his brother were at least familiar with how things were when it came to having powers and the whole ... well. Thing. Of having to deal with them and the unintended consequences.
So it's with a deep breath that she enters the pub, though not familiar with this one, she's able to scale back on any lingering paranoia. She's just meeting a friend for drinks. Nothing more, nothing less. No need to worry about having to possibly deal with a bar brawl. Simple enough.
Her outfit is simple - a nice top with a light jacket over it, jeans, and boots. Nothing too fancy, but also dressy enough for a night out. He raises her head slightly once she enters, squaring up and scanning the room to see where Snow was at. She can sense a few others here that weren't baseline humans, but for now she just files it away at the back of her mind while she makes her way toward the back.
"Hey there," she greets once she's close enough after spotting him. "Hope I'm not late?"
Meeting an acquaintance for drinks would be the more apt description but if he were to hear her calling him a friend he would already call that a win. Actually, he already considers it a win that she didn't shoot him down for that first...rather special image that he sent to her by mistake. That response that she sent to him does make him wonder just how far he can push the tease but doing it in person was far different to doing it through messages.
When he notices her -- she actually showed up -- his heart skips a beat and the nerves he feels actually pops a little flurry of snow over the bar. Some chinks of glasses and some sighs from the bartender gives it away that this isn't Snow's first time here. Hopefully she doesn't notice or at least doesn't attribute that tiny slip up to him.
He smiles to her and shakes his head. "I haven't been here long." At least the reformed ice cubes in his drink could give him an alibi for how long he's actually sat there. Truth was, he kind of rushed his way over here. "A little surprised you were willing to meet up to give me a chance to make it up to you for that..image I sent." A small nervous laugh follows as he glances to the side a moment.
To be fair... yeah, it'd be a win to hear someone like her calling someone a friend so quickly. Madsen's made plenty of acquaintances through the years, but calling anyone a friend definitely requires something else to be there. Never mind that in the grand scheme of things, a saucy picture like that sent to her wasn't nearly as bad as she has been sent before, sadly enough. All this to really say that he could've done a lot worse.
She easily gives a grin once he extends a hand, giving it a firm shake before settling down opposite him in the booth. When the server comes around to ask for her drink order, it's easily obliged when she orders a glass of water and a White Russian. Even if she probably wouldn't need to worry about pacing herself too much due to what she's become, better to play it safe than sorry. Besides, wouldn't be the best idea to accidentally scare away her date.
She shrugs at his question, tapping her fingers against the counter before she laces her fingers together in a fit of trying to burn off some nervous energy. "Figured I could take the chance. And trust me, that's far from the worst thing that anyone's sent me, accidental or otherwise."
The fact that she's asking for a White Russian instead of a Black was a little relieving. Her taste is a little milder than he was expecting for someone that has the power to control flames. He asks for a Kamizake for himself, moreso that he likes his drinks blue and reminding him of a storm as he relaxes into his seat and shoots her a genuine smile. He's not actually very good with dates. Specially with someone he hasn't gotten to know better first in a different type of relationship like through work.
It's a big chance that he has taken to ask her out and now that she's here, the nerves are getting to him just a little. "I'm used to fire users having a much more volatile temper." He laughs a little at that and shakes his head. "You don't seem at all nervous about sharing the fact that you have special abilities." He says it quite casually, not quite phrasing it as a question in case she doesn't want to talk about it. Not everybody is casual enough to talk about these kinds of things.
Specially depending on how he came to have these abilities. He supposes when you're born with an ability like this, things are a little less invasive to talk about since this was the life you've always had. He doesn't want to probe, specially since this is their first time out together. So he watches her quietly for her cue, ready to change the topic if she looks hesitant in any way.
Really, in this case she doesn't want to go too far right out of the gate, even if alcohol doesn't affect her as much as it would for most people. Plus it's not like speeding toward drunk is going to do either of them any favors. Madsen tucks some hair behind her ear, more in a way to give her hands some more to do - at least she and Snow both are apparently nervous about this. It's refreshing.
She gives an amused snort and grin. "I've kinda learned to keep my cool over the years. Have to, in my case. There's a lot that can go wrong if I fly off the handle too much." Her expression shifts a little, going back to folding her hands in front of her. "And honestly, at this point in my life it's just a fact. The same as someone else mentioning they've got a birthmark, y'know? Except a bit more dangerous, but you get where I'm going with it." She shrugs, a wry little smile on her face at the comment.
Not that she'd ever downplay how things have been ... interesting, but it's not exactly first-date material to be talking about. It does help that she's been raised to be aware of it, and that she's grown up around it, but she can also understand that might be off-putting to some people.
